Like the perfect selvedge jeans that last decades or cast iron skillets that can go for a century, these mitts aren’t for someone looking for quick, cheap, and silicone. We use rich full-grain leather and like a well broken-in baseball mitt, this tough layer will mold to your hand and take on a unique patina with heat and wear.

Sold as a pair.

Cast iron gets hot and stays hot, so hand protection is a must in active kitchens. Our Leather Handle Cover is great for stovetop use, but we wanted to design a comfortable heat protection solution for heavy-duty cast iron cooking with the Field Dutch Oven and larger Field Skillet sizes.

We worked with the team at Queen City Dry Goods to design easy-on, easy-off leather mitts that can handle cookware heated in max temperature ovens while retaining excellent dexterity for the kinds of quick grabs where most kitchen and campfire burns occur.

Every hand is different, and we’ve endeavored to create a shape that’s comfortable for everyone, regardless of size.

To determine your ideal size, measure from the base of your palm to the tip of your middle finger. Our sizes, measured in inches, correspond to this measurement. Small, at 6 ¾", is made for smaller hands. If you’re closer to 7 ⅜” go for the Medium (our most popular size). If you measure 8” or longer and have a stronger grip, you’ll be safe with the Large.

Made from durable full-grain leather, insulated with wool batting and lined with black suede. We like working with leather goods because, like cast iron, they evolve and develop unique and well-earned wear patterns through time and use.

Our Leather Oven Mitts are made in the USA, stitched and assembled by hand from start to finish in Vermont’s Champlain Valley.

These mitts are made to handle hot cast iron cookware, and will crease, scuff, and develop a fine patina over time, following the unique pattern of time and use in your kitchen. Like all great leather goods, they’ll settle into an exact fit dictated by the way you use them.

Mitts are designed to handle cookware heated at temperatures up to 550°F. Use to handle hot cookware, but don’t leave mitts in the oven or exposed to open flame. Exercise caution while handling hot foods and cookware.

Hot, Handled

Hand protection is a big part of cooking with cast iron, because every piece of cookware eventually becomes too hot to handle—at least without some help.

We worked with Queen City Dry Goods, of Williston, Vermont, to create the perfect leather mitt for handling cast iron cookware in the kitchen, or around the fire.

    An essential non essential

While these expensive oven mitts may not be a necessity, they are a delightful indulgence for anyone who appreciates fine leather goods. These mitts only get better with age as their patina develops, making them a worthwhile investment. Functionally, they excel at their intended purpose, providing excellent protection and usability.

Upon unboxing, I was immediately impressed, reminiscent of the joy a child in the 1950s might have felt opening a new catcher’s mitt on Christmas morning. Now, every time I open the drawer where these mitts are stored, I am greeted by the wonderful aroma of leather.

If you can swing it and have discovered this review it is a sign to buy it now and prepare to enjoy!

    Love these!

I love this newer style of these mitts. The fit is much better and there is more padding and they seem to bend easier when breaking them in.

These just replaced a whole bunch of hot pads! Amazing quality.
